Lightning comes off as a strong, independent, determined young woman who concentrates on what she sets her mind to. She takes the lead in many situations, being the de facto leader in the first game. She was thrown into a situation that would seem hopeless to many, choosing to be Purged when the Sanctum infiltrated New Bodhum due to Fal'Cie. Not one to sit lightly, she plans an escape, not holding back in order to see her plan through. This starts the beginning of where she uses her determination to do anything to get to her sister, Serah.

When she sees Serah turn into crystal for completing her Focus, she momentarily loses track of what she wants. Her grief turns to anger rather quickly, and she sets her sights on destroying the Fal'Cie that cursed her sister. Instead of being the destroyer, she becomes a l'Cie, gaining a Focus which she fights tooth and nail to no achieve. She becomes determined to be the downfall of Sanctum. She doesn't believe that her sister can be changed back from a crystal until she meets Fang, a former l'Cie who had failed to fulfill her Focus, but had been granted a crystal sleep by a higher authority. Lightning, upon finding out that her sister would one day awaken, gained a new focus of her own. She would destroy her enemies and find a way to wake her sister. Being used along the way by Barthandalus, she lets herself learn to trust her companions, finding a strange companionship with them that is similar to a bond a family would have. After they defeat Orphan, enduring torture and torment, she is given the one thing she wanted most in the world - her sister, but at the loss of her companions Fang and Vanille.

When Etro makes Lightning her champion, time is changed, causing a rift that ripples through the past as well as the future. As the Knight of Etro, residing in Valhalla, Lighting sees all timelines. She sees what could be, can be, and what will be. She is also forced to fight Caius, a man possessing the Heart of Chaos. She enlists the help of a young man by the name of Noel Kreiss, giving him the task of helping the one person she didn't want involved, but the only one who could do it, her sister Serah. She gives him a good luck charm for Serah, a moogle name Mog who could become a weapon to help Serah with her quest. As she progresses through the games, she learns to be more open and compassionate. She learns that it is okay to ask for help from others, and not only rely on herself, and that trusting others is not something she should keep herself from doing. She has become more somber through her experiences, though she expresses emotions now instead of keeping them bottled up. When she sees her sister for the last time, she holds back despite herself, and tells her sister what she needs to do in order to defeat Caius. She then becomes a crystal, vowing to sleep till her sister is once again reborn, so they could be together again.

In the last game, she is once again cold and distant, having most of her emotions stolen by Bhunivelze in order to make her more likely to do his bidding. When she sees the person she thinks is her sister Serah, she notices the lack of emotion towards her. This disturbs her and heightens her anger toward Bhunivelze, slowly turning into a wish to destroy him if he didn't give her back what he had promised her for her service. Lumina, who she discovers is a part of herself that she discarded when she became Lightning, slowly reveals to her that she had given up her emotions willingly, and embraces that part of herself on the last day, gaining back what she had lost when she made the deal with Bhunivelze. Despite all this, she still shows concern for her former allies, and wishes to help them with their tasks, and still shows she trusts them. As she starts on her task to save souls, she becomes more compassionate towards those souls (people, etc.). She becomes encouraging to those who need it, and in the end realizes she was holding herself back from being happy, having self-imposed the though and emotionless warrior persona to keep her own heart safe.  .

Gem Considerations: I have chosen Rose Quartz for Lightning. It will be in the center of her chest like her l'Cie brand/Etro crest/Savior's mark were. Her crystal in the games is represented by a rose. The qualities that this gem represents, especially love, emotional healing, and unity, perfectly represent the forces that drive her in her life.

Power considerations:
List Three Powers You Would Like Your Character To Have:
  • Elemental magic (lightning, fire, etc.)

  • Speed

  • Healing

Lightning would embrace any ability she receives, because she could use those powers to save others. The cap would frustrate her, but she would accept it in the end and try to use the cap to her advantage by using more tactical and strategic approaches to fighting.
